takes everything you've got. And for our new addition - that was no lie. On May 13, 2008, our little Sprout was born. Aly's water broke at 5:15am on May 12th and contractions began with a bang! Every 3 minutes for about 30 seconds each, we were greeted by a nudge from Sprout. After arriving at the hospital around 11 and receiving a clean non-stress test, it seemed he rather liked being in his womb - so we were sent home to eat lunch and told to come back "when you aren't smiling anymore." Well, our spaghetti was just what the doctor ordered - but the bill couldn't come fast enough as Aly was no longer so perky, status post pasta. We made our way back to the hospital a little less comfortable than before. We'll never forget the tune on the radio: "Somethin' good this way comes" by Jakob Dylan. Seemed perfectly meant to be. Of course...not as soon as we'd hoped, silly Sprout. When he found out we were at the hospital, he decided to take a nap! Contractions retreated and we decided to go on a brisk walk around Capitol Hill to wake the little one up! No such luck. Aly was smiling again - not a good sign. So we headed home to chill for a while and were told to come back when...yep...the smile was gone. Finally returned about 2:30am and met our fantabulous doula, Sandy. We figured if she was there - we meant business. We just couldn't bear waiting much longer to meet our little Sprout. Well. Lesson #1 learned. These babes do everything - i mean everything - on their own terms.
To cut to the chase... Sprout finally made an appearance on May 13, 2008 at 3:54pm. Yep, you're right. That's 34 hours and 39 minutes of labor. All we can say is thank heavens for Sandy, Maggie, Leslie, Ann, and Katrina (to name a few). Labor was not so bad and when Sprout popped out - well, it was all worth it!
